AICC MEETS WITH CONGRESS
AICC members traveled to Washington, DC, for meetings on Capitol Hill with key legislators. Representing AICC was AICC Chairman Deepak A. Kapoor, MD, Chairman and CEO of Integrated Medical Professionals, PLLC, AICC Vice Chairman Juan Reyna, President and CEO of Urology San Antonio, Joseph Dankoff of Physician's Urology in Akron, Ohio, and David Ellis, of Academic Urology in Bryn Mawr, PA.
The AICC delegation met with 11 members of Congress, five Senators and six Representatives, from both sides of the aisle. Meetings were with Congressional leaders who are active and influential in the health care debate, and focused on the issues of radiation oncology reimbursement and access to a comprehensive model of care of the highest quality. In all cases, the delegation met with either the member him or herself, their chief of staff, or their health policy advisor. In several instances meetings were with combinations of these individuals, and in two instances with all three. The response was uniformly positive, and resulted in important letters from both the House and the Senate to Secretary Sebelius of HHS, urging her to have CMS revise the proposed changes in the MPFS.
